Section 5 – Education, Learning Styles and Usages
Education is a very important part of today’s society, using education as a tool to better ourselves. Many people associate education and learning with going to school, college and then university, however there are many different levels of learning and education.
For instance many people sit their driving tests every year. But the learning behind that is and can be done in many different ways. There’s a practical examination of which the learning is done through practical lessons for example, driving lessons, there is also the theory and aptitude tests of which can be learnt through many different mediums.
Internet, book’s, DVD’s and classroom instruction are just a selection of the different types of learning.
Do you educate yourself or others in any of the following environments?
Home
Educational Institute
Work
Night Class

Yes No
If you answered yes, what forms of technology do you use?
Are these tools helpful?
Yes No
Did you find these tools more effective than traditional methods?
Yes No
If yes, why?
Can you think of an instance in the past 12 months of where you have been taught or learnt something new, either a skill or knowledge based, where modern technology has aided in successfully educating you in a way that traditional methods would not? If yes, what?

The Kite Runner
Went to see The Kite Runner last week. I thought the film was very good, emotional and had my full attention. Some shocking scenes and 4 different languages spoken throughout makes it a must see. http://www.kiterunnermovie.com/ check it out.
PRP Artifact 2
For the second artifact I shall no longer be doing a secondary questionnaire anymore as I believe that I have got enough results to allow me to move on. So instead I am going to ask a group of students in pairs to complete the same task but each pair will be taught and instructed through different mediums. Such as Podcast, document, website, verbal etc. I will look at the time spent completing the task for each of the mediums and also ask the participants a series of questions to help try and answer the question at hand.
PRP 1st Artefact Evauation
I believe that this method of research is a very suitable way to begin answering the question of whether or not multimedia technology and technology as a whole has an affect on learning.
I believe that the results I gather will aid me in the construction of further artefacts of which I will use to aid me answering the question at hand.
After completing around 10 questionnaires I realised that the questionnaire I had developed had flaws.
• Section 1 contains questions concerning subject matter such as age and profession.
• Section 2 contains questions about technology, what technology people own use and how often they use it.
• Section 3 contains questions concerning the Internet.
• Section 4 contains questions about mobile technology and it’s uses.
• Section 5 contains questions about education, learning styles and usages. This is where I begin experiencing problems.
Wording of the questions, the point of which I’m trying to make, what it specifically is that I’m trying to find out were only some of the problems. I was unable to gain answers from all of my candidates for all the questions this was partly due to the catchment of the people I was talking to.
However I decided that I was able to still use the questionnaire and the results gained. The idea is that the results I gather will be used as a basis for a second questionnaire of which I will use alongside the original to better my understanding of the general publics thoughts, opinions and experiences with multimedia technology within education.
I collected 60 questionnaires worth of content. I have collated the results and displayed them in the form of bar charts. From these results I can see that a large percentage of people owned computers (80%) and the same amount of people had Internet on their machines at home. And 35% of those people used their Internet connected computers for educational purposes. Each person that said they used their computer and internet for educational purposes said they found them both helpful and more interestingly more effective than more traditional methods.

PRP - Literature Document
I eventually got this essay finished. I hated every moment of it. However I believe that I found suitable sources that were linked to my area of research. It's in, it's done and now I just need to concentrate on the work ahead in terms 2 and 3.

Client Assigned Project
This project was that of a successful one. I shot the advert in one whole day with a view to have another day set aside incase of any shots that require a re-shoot. The Location I used in the end was a penthouse flat in Nottingham, it had full length windows on the 2 longest sides of the room which helped with the lighting. A clear day allowed me to use minimal lighting.
I also used an actress hired from www.starnow.com. Its a website from which you can place up advertisements for auditions available or advertise yourself as an actor. She was really helpful during filming as she had already done many professional shoots and worked in a professional environment in the past. She gave me advice on some lighting aspects, shot ideas and continuity within each shot.
When I came to capturing the footage for editing, I was happy with most of the shots taken. With that I no longer need the extra day of filming.
However I went through some export issues as I filmed in HD and used Final Cut for my editing. I was unable to find a suitable compression rate that gave the required output for hand in. My hand in disk contained 6 different video files. Each with different compressions. The best video compression meant that it wasn't an .avi file but I believed that it was the one that looked the best.
All in all a fun project to work on, I enjoyed the set 6 week time to complete the project, however I did feel that maybe a similar project should be introduced into the 2nd year to allow the students to prepare more for what lies ahead in the final year.
