Summary of Plot
A fly on the move evades the dreaded fly swatter only to be crushed by a can of insect repellent.
Character Ideas
I have been thinking about different possibilities of characters that could fit the role with regards to location and also the purpose of the advert.
Housewife
Maid / Butler
Safari
Mr Muscle type character
With much thought I believe that the best character for this advert is a housewife. I think that the product would sell best if the advert was aimed towards housewife/mother’s.
Character Profile / Actress
I believe the character would be white, middle aged, well dressed of medium build.
I have been putting some thought into finding an actress that would fit the profile. I am going to contact local dramatics groups and put up notices in the Broadway theatre. I’ll then hold some auditions in the 3rd/4th week and then start filming during the end of the 3rd week or the beginning of the 4th.
Another option is recruiting an actress from my hometown in Yorkshire. I have had links with the dramatics groups there, and can think of a couple of actresses that would fit the role.
Location
I’m going to look for a family home and aim to use one with a large kitchen area or conservatory.
An advantage of recruiting an actress from Yorkshire is that I could us my own house as a location. The room I would use is big enough to get appropriate lighting set up and enough space for the camera operator to move around.
Script
The fly is moving flying around the room, twisting and turning moving from one side of the room to the other. The housewife steps into view holding a fly swatter. She swings the fly swatter around the room aiming for the fly, this happens two or three times but the fly is to quick and misses almost certain death.
The fly then lands onto a surface and is suddenly crushed by a can of insect repellent. The screen then goes black all except the insect repellent and the slogan which is in white (to be decided).
Ok so i've been planning away and thinking about who, what, where etc.....but after my tutorial session this morning and seeing how much matt had put into his treatment especially with his casting and location work. I felt as if i'd already began to let myself down.
I also forgot about my crew, and how i'll need 3-4 people within that crew to make it a "polished product" like we've discussed in the tutorials.
I have now applied and put an advertisement up on www.starnow.com which is a casting website for various different productions etc.....I am hoping that from this i'll be able to find myself a suitable actress for the production.
As for location's. I'm completely stumped. If I am going to use a crew i'm going to have to find a nottingham location and a nottingham actress, as most people don't hve the time to spend 2 days out of the city as they all have their own work to be concentrating on! I'm going to totally rethink my actor/location situation and i have also strted to think about changing the plot of the advert completely.

PRP Topic - Literature Review
I wish to research and discuss as to whether or not multimedia technology within education has a positive effect on learning and if the use of this technology is an improvement to that of more traditional methods. In this document I shall be researching what tools past and present are used within schools, their advances (i.e. Past – slate and chalk, Present – laptop computer) and what the future holds for education in this digital age.
What’s more effective as a teaching tool, more traditional methods such as the chalkboard introduced in 1801 or the modernised projectors and networked computers that we see in many schools today?
I am going to produce some aptitude tests including things such as memory related questions, mathematics and languages in both traditional and modern methods.
I will evaluate the artefacts by putting them into practice at school’s, college’s and within NTU. I will ask students to complete the aptitude tests and then answer some questions in the form of a questionnaire as to whether the traditional or modern methods were more successful. Along side the test results I should then be able to answer the question.

The year ahead........
I've now been back for a whole week and already there is so much to do! Firstly I am going to talk about the Client Module. This has been seperated into two parts, the first being an assigned project which consists of a 30 second television advert advertising, informing and selling the product, insect repellent. I find this to be a very challenging subject topic and expect to have much fun completing it. I have already began working on ideas which I will pitch to my group on thursday and then hopefully come to a conclusion as to which one I am going to do.
The second part of the client module is a live project. Containing all the aspects of customer and client relations of which a brief will be met. I have found a client based in Harewood, North Yorkshire. It is a financial services company called Godfrey Pearson Limited (http://www.godfreypearson.com). They are currently looking for someone to create them a new identity and multimedia package including website, tv advert, radio advert and much more. More detail will be made in later posts.
Secondly the Personal Research Module. I have had a bit of a rocky start with this module. Finding a research topic really isn't that easy! My initial thoughts was to produce something which discussed the effects on film for different mediums and how the compression rate of that film effected its aesthetic value. I decided against this after discussions with deb and jools as producing artefacts for the research via practice side of the module could prove difficult as it would only be a case of changing a couple of settings when exporting the movie. Hardly a challenge and probably rubbish marks of origonality!
After listening to some of my peers and their ideas in a surgery meeting held by jools last week I now have a better idea of what is being asked of us. I've been looking at technology within education, more so on the mutimedia side of things, such as film and music. How this technology works within education? The advantages of being able to use a multimedia projector instead of a OHP? How the technology helps in different environments such as; in the office, schools (differnt age groups different levels of technology?), medical (children with downs syndrome for instance) and maybe the use of this technology for the rehabilitation of people who have suffered severe trauma from accidents such as a car crash.
There is much information out there on the internet and in the library about this area of research and how it may make a difference in education. I'm in the process of ironing out the finer details of this topic such as what artefacts I am going to produce and how they'll be tested. I'll post that up here once it's done.
Finally SPP3, I have already began looking a job roles and jobs available to see what I should be aiming to do when I finish in 2008. I have a verbal confirmation concerning a 2 week placement working a Sky Sports in London for the Easter break and I am aiming secure another week working with a couple of freelance cameramen nearer xmas/new year.
I have decided that I need to produce an individual online portfolio that is dettached from the Hub available at NTU. It is quite a competitive world out there and i'd rather that when prospective employers are looking at my portfolio they are only looking at my portfolio! So I am currently working on designs and ironing out what software I believe would be the best for me to use. I have only little experience in website design from college level almost 5 years ago. So I am giving myself up until the end of January to complete it as to ensure I don't fall behind in my other modules.
All in all I am glad to be in the 3rd year and I am looking forward to hopefully producing some high quality pieces of work.
