Started to gather thoughts and ideas on the depicT 90s film that we shall be doing for stage 3 of the AV Coursework. My first idea is one of which may be a collaberation with a fine art student at NTU. The idea is protraying the digital world of binary in its real time format.
The idea of representing a Byte, MegaByte, GigaByte etc but in its binary format on printed sheets of paper. I have found a program called a Hex Editor which takes any image and turns it into its binary format. The idea is taking a room with nothing but a table, chair and someone sat at the table with a laptop or a computer, next to which is a stack of paper which would represent the information being sent to the computer through the internet. Then from that the blank room would slowly change into a complete binary format expanding from the computer through the desk onto the floor up the walls and eventually covering the celing and the whole room. This would then leave the person sat at the desk completely surrounded and almost engulfed in binary code.
I really like this idea in representing the new digital age, and portraying the background truth of everything digital is built up in this binary code.
This is very much a work in progress and the idea is being built on daily. Stay tuned for any developments in this idea.
